Apfel Wine, Romantic Rain and Fleisch in Frankfurt

Celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary in Germany this week. My rusty German has pretty much rusted and disappeared from my brain. English works just fine here luckily enough. As we learned when trying to use a computer kiosk to buy train tickets, when all else fails, take a cab. That is one of the best things about traveling when you’re older–you have more money.

We had massages at a spa, showered and hit the streets of Frankfurt. It was a very romantic evening to stroll along the Main in the rain. Romerburg, Frankfurt’s market square was set up to celebrate apfel wein. I have to say the 2nd glass went down better than the first.

We crossed the river and wandered into Zum Gemalten Haus for dinner. This was true German fare with slabs of meat and sauerkraut. The patrons were a lively, friendly group and were enjoying their apfel wein so much that they were having entire conversations in German with us. Only, we were just nodding, smiling and clueless.

Entshultigung me bitte on spelling and punctuation, I’m hovered over my iPhone next to my snoring husband in the middle of the night 🙂

Guten tag! Be thankful that you live in a land far far away from where you grew up. I run into Frau Zubriztky walking in the woods behind our house every once in awhile…she looks exactly the same — mean and scary.
